Wildruhezonen sind für Säugetiere und Vögel wichtige Gebiete, in denen die Bedürfnisse der Wildtiere im Vordergrund stehen. Sie dienen der Vermeidung übermäßiger Störung als Antwort auf die zunehmende Freizeitnutzung. Wildruhezonen dürfen während bestimmten Jahreszeiten - oder in einzelnen Fällen während des ganzen Jahres - nur auf offiziellen Wegen für Freizeitaktivitäten genutzt werden. Es herrscht also ein Wegegebot.
