On est alors en vue du refuge d'Avérole (2220 m) que l'on gagne facilement. Rejoindre ensuite par une courte traversée descendante le ruisseau d'Arnes. Plutôt que de le remonter (passage assez raide), prendre d'abord à droite la direction du Col d'Arbéron jusque vers 2400 m, puis à gauche, par une pente un peu plus soutenue, gagner un replat vers 2600 m d'où il est facile de rejoindre l'axe du ruisseau, puis par des agréables vallonnements, d'atteindre le Col d'Arnes, bien visible de loin.
