Depuis Grand Nâves suivre le sentier du Tour du Beaufortain (il monte régulièrement et sans lacets inutiles). Passer à Pré Essui, au Châtelard, au chalet de la Bataille pour atteindre le refuge du Nant du Beurre. De là, monter sans problème par la gauche au Grand Crétet. >##Descente >Descendre par le même itinéraire jusqu'au chalet de la Bataille. De là, traverser à niveau (RF) pour atteindre de belles pentes qui par plan Bernard permettent une belle descente. >###Variante de descente >Du sommet, descendre l'arête SW puis la face SW par la droite (en descendant). Atteindre ainsi le Châtelard et la piste de ski de fond qui ramène à l'itinéraire décrit.
