De Vallon d'en Bas (710 m) prendre le chemin à droite de la chapelle en direction des chalets du Trot et de Criou (1664 m).>Arrivée aux chalets de Criou continuer direction NE vers la pointe Rousse du Criou. Au pied de cette pointe vers 2400 m continuer vers les Grands Fats, l'itinéraire traverse dès lors des pentes plus raides présentant un danger suivant les conditions nivologiques.
